250 Games and a century in round 4

Accelerate Automotive Bloomfield Premier 3 vs Palmy Legends.

Saturday 23rd of November at Manawaroa Park 5.

After 2 rained out rounds already this season we were very keen to get our match vs Palmy Legends underway. The forecast was not great so the idea would be to win the toss and bowl first. Captain Trout came up with the goods, winning the toss and electing to have a bowl. Benjamin or “Burnzee” (for some reason today) was given the new ball. He found good movement in the air and off the deck but the odd stray delivery let the Palmy batsmen off the hook. Trout found excellent lines from the other end making scoring very difficult. The tight bowling and short field were bound to reap rewards with the opening batsmen clearly struggling to find the middle of the bat. The first wicket came in the 3rd over with “Burnzee” picking up the wicket of Anuj Basatia for 0. Trout then followed in the next over getting the important wicket of Palmy’s captain Shawn Thomas, caught by Tyler “Mark Ruffalo” for 1.  Bunzee struck again in the 4th and then a run-out a few overs later left Palmy reeling. Karan Gill tried to counterattack but his stay was short lasted, taking on the tasteful spin of Kurtis one too many times, caught by Trout on the boundary.

Sahan and Gaz were given the bowling duties after drinks but after a promising start the runs started to tick up. The partnership between Max Chopra and Gurinder Singh threatened to get things back on track for palmy but a miss-timed shot from Max had him out caught from Gaz’s bowling. 2 run-outs in short succession left Palmy’s fightback in tatters. A stunning catch from Gaz at silly mid-on capped off a sharp bowling effort and a stunning display in the field. Palmy bowled out for 109.

Bigg Doggs was a little bit tired after his effort behind the stumps so he handed over the opening bat position to Mark Ruffalo. He and Jase got things under way by rotating the strike nicely with the odd boundary from Jase to boot. Lovey late cuts from Ruffalo of some wayward bowling meant the pressure never really came on. Jase spent his time fighting the demons in his head telling him to plunder 6’s and finish it in 3 overs. Just when it looked like he might have vanquished them the fought back with a vengeance. Jase chased one ball too many and was out caught from the bowling of Harpreet Singh. That brough Plich to the crease. He offered up a few early chances but the were all put down. Eventually he settled in and between him and Ruffalo they made their way to the target with no further issues.

MVP: Tyler 3, Trout 2, Benjamin 1.
